The World Cup and Euro 2004 winner has been named in Jacques Santini's squad for the friendly with Yugoslavia on Saturday.
Petit is the only change to Les Bleus squad, having been left out of the Euro 2004 qualifying double header with Slovenia and Malta.
There is no place for Leeds' Oliver Dacourt, Manchester City's Nicolas Anelka or Liverpool's Bruno Cheyrou, although Petit is joined by eight other Premiership players in the 22-man party.
Petit's Stamford Bridge team-mate's Marcel Desailly and William Gallas are in, along with Manchester United duo Fabien Barthez and Mikael Silvestre, Arsenal's Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Sylvain Wiltord, as well as Fulham's Steve Marlet.
