Player Ratings- Wolves (a)

Last updated : 22 September 2003 By Rich Godden
Carlo Cudicini- Will Carlo play in an easier game this season? Wolves rarely threatened, when they did Carlo was there (or the woodwork) to preserve the clean sheet. 7

Glen Johnson- Not an awful lot of defending to do for Glen so he bombed forward at every opportunity. Seems to have slotted into the Chelsea side with the minimum amount of fuss or effort and will surely be considered for England in the near future. 7

John Terry- As solid as ever, JT ensured that Wolves barely had a sniff at goal. Should have had a goal himself but that was chalked off for an unlucky handball by Eidur. 7

William Gallas- Had just one tackle to make in 90 minutes- enough said! Spent most of the game as an idle spectator. 7

Celsetine Babayaro- Proved a decent foil to Duffman's pacy escapades down the left. Didn't put a foot wrong in defence and he looks like he has forgotten all about his nightmare season last term. 7

Jesper Gronkjaer- Not his best game but at the same time it wasn't his worst game. Played well enough before being replaced by Cole early in the second half. 7

Claude Makelele- Still adapting to the pace of the Premiership- his tackling was spot on but it's the speed of his thought when in possesion that needs to be sorted. But that will come with time. 7

Frank Lampard- The man that makes it all click. All of Frank's critics- please watch a tape of this game. You will see what a magnificent player he has become.... 9

Damien Duff- Wolves simply could not handle his pace. Scored his first Chelsea goal, set up one for Crespo and ran the Wolves defence ragged. More of the same please Duffman! 8

Eidur Gudjohnsen- Will be disappointed that he didn't score but he can take heart from this performance. He didn't look out of place amongst the galaxy of superstars in white. 8

Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink- Took his goal superbly, unlucky not to get another. Just seeing his reaction when Crespo scored twice shows you hungry he is! Let's keep the anger there and then unleash him in a few weeks time! 8

A speacial mention must go to Crespo, who scored with his only two meaningful touches of the ball! The sign of a clinical striker...
