The Blues play at Leicester on Monday night, seeking to move on from a woeful opening four months of the campaign, which saw the holders 14th entering this weekend's Premier League fixtures.
Victory over Porto and a place in the Champions League knockout stages has revitalised Mourinho's belief in his squad, though, and he is certain Diego Costa and Eden Hazard will soon find the net as a matter of routine.
Striker Costa has seven goals since January and four this season, while Hazard, the stand-out performer in last year's title success, has not scored in 26 Chelsea appearances.
"We need results
We need to score more goals," said Mourinho, whose position could yet be in jeopardy despite being under contract until June 2019.
"I know maybe you come back immediately with Diego and Hazard, they are not scoring goals, but the way they played against Porto they have to score goals.
"Sooner or later goals are coming
Their performance against Porto was very good
So in this moment I am less worried than I was."
Mourinho is looking to convert strong displays and chances into points after Chelsea rediscovered some of their defensive steel.
"It doesn't matter the competition
If we play tomorrow in the FA Cup, we need to win matches, we need to win points," Mourinho added.
"We need what we're having now regularly, which is lots of clean sheets, very few goals conceded.
"At the beginning of the season three (goals conceded), three, three, three, two
In this moment, zero (goals conceded), zero, one, zero, one
We are in this defensive stability now."
Leicester were fighting relegation for the entirety of last season and survived as Chelsea challenged for and ultimately won the title.
For now, at least, roles are reversed.
Mourinho said: "They are there because they're doing magnificently well
And we are where we are because we are doing bad.
"We have basically the same potential as last season
We have the same manager, we have the same players.
"If we are where we are it's because we are under-performing and if Leicester is where they are, it's because manager and players are doing magnificently well."
