Premier League Team of the Week - Round 4

It's no exaggeration to say that this weekend will go down as one of the most batsh*t mental rounds of fixtures in Premier League history.

We thought Man City dropping points at Leeds with a shocker, we thought West Ham romping Leicester was a turnup for the books. Little did we know, though, all that was only the beginning.

Sunday's final two matches shared 16 goals; Manchester United and Liverpool (yeah, Liverpool) were on the receiving end of 13 of those. We've never seen anything like it, and probably won't again.

Anyway, now we've built it up, here's 90min's team of the week.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Alphonse Areola (GK) - Fulham don't look as if they have much hope of survival this season, but Areola's heroics between the sticks might just give them a fighting chance. They were dominated against Wolves, but limited them to a single goal, thanks to Areola throwing himself in the way of everything.

Serge Aurier (RB) - He's had his critics recently but in Spurs' astonishing win over Man Utd, Aurier looked up for a fight with Matt Doherty over the starting right-back berth.

Ruben Dias (CB) - It wasn't exactly a memorable debut for Dias, as City dropped points once more, but he was quietly impressive in a game his team might easily have lost if not for his influence. Made a few key challenges and imposed himself on the game well.

Aaron Cresswell (CB) - Who'd have thought there was a good centre-back in Aaron Cresswell? Jamie Vardy might have relished running at the converted left-back, but he was given no quarter as West Ham kept a second clean sheet in as many league games.

Ben Chilwell (LB) - His Premier League debut for Chelsea couldn't exactly have gone more smoothly. He opened the scoring and picked out Kurt Zouma with a corner for number two, and turned in a diligent defensive performance to help his side to a first league clean sheet of the season.

2. Midfielders

James Rodriguez (RM) - We're stretching a little to put James on the right of a midfield four, but needs must. Anyone who suggested he'd have a hard time adapting to the rigours of the Premier League has been left looking very, very silly, as he delivered an instrumental performance with two goals and an assist to put Brighton to bed.

Jack Grealish (CM) - Two goals and three assists in a 7-2 victory over the champions. Can't really complain, can you?

John McGinn (CM) - McGinn's industry was the perfect foil for Grealish's rampant creativity as Aston Villa comprehensively obliterated Liverpool. The Scotland midfielder was everywhere, over-running Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum as if it was the easiest job in the world.

Son Heung-min (LM) - Aaron Wan-Bissaka will see Son Heung-min everywhere he turns for the next month, such is the extent of the emotional trauma the South Korean caused him in Spurs' jaw-dropping victory. Son made the inside left channel his own, terrorising Wan-Bissaka and Eric Bailly, who - spoiler - is not the answer to United's defensive problems.

3. Forwards

Ollie Watkins (CF) - The first player to score a first-half hattrick against Liverpool since Andy Cole in 1993. Left, right and header, it was a perfect hattrick at that. He hadn't so much as scored a league goal for Villa prior to this point. That's how you make an impact.

Harry Kane (CF) - We all know what Kane is capable of but it actually looks as if José Mourinho may have taken him to another level. He's been a creative force of nature, and registered his sixth assist of the season when he cleverly played in Son for Spurs' second at Old Trafford. Also, he scored twice, but that's just par for the course.
