The Blues manager has said he wants to improve on last season's sixth place in order to bring Champions League football back to Stamford Bridge.
"I am an optimistic man and I would be very happy if Chelsea reached the Champions League," he said.
The Italian also insisted striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona throughout the summer, is set to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Barcelona had a £10m bid for the Holland international rejected by Chelsea last week and now Ranieri has attempted to put an end to any more speculation over his star striker's future.
"For me, the Barcelona story is finished and Jimmy is our player," he said.
