Rotherham United plight

Last updated : 10 February 2006 By Paul Lagan
Rotherham United have just weeks to save themselves from folding.
A statement on their website states:

"Within minutes of Rotherham United's board announcing that club has just a matter of weeks to close a £1m funding gap or is likely to cease trading and drop out of the Football League, supporters from Wrexham to Chelsea; Bury to Cambridge United, began e-mailing and phoning the club to give the appeal their backing.
In addition, the Millers had received:
Their first four figure donation
An offer to produce and sell copies of the Millerman CD
Offers of schools' sponsored walks
The club needs to find £1m to keep going until the end of the season and up to a further £1m, based on current estimates, to achieve full viability for next season and beyond.
The club's Save The Millers Campaign is driving fundraising efforts and initiatives and they want to hear from everyone who can help.
The campaign incorporates the club's directors, commercial staff and fans representatives and they want to hear from anyone who can donate funds or provide help with fundraising ideas.
Anyone wanting to help should:
Make a donation via the appeal hotline - for the use of credit and debit card payments, accessed via the usual ticket line 0870 4281857 (operational from midday on Friday)
Send a donation to the club with cheques made payable to R.U.S.T

David Veal, Rotherham United Director, said: "The response we have had from supporters of other clubs has been fantastic and very encouraging. These are desperate times for the club and the fans and we need to unite together to save the football club. We are asking every fan to help, whether it is by sending a contribution to the appeal or by holding a fundraising event or by giving us fundraising ideas.
Save Our Millers will be looking into every fundraising opportunity and knocking on every potential investors' door in order to raise funds for the club and we are asking for the fans and the people of Rotherham to get involved and do their bit to save Rotherham United."
