Luiz Felipe Scolari said his team "played well".
After routing Sunderland 5-0, you would think he would be jumping for joy. But the Brazilian is careful to remain measured in victory and defeat.
"It was a similar performance to when we beat Aston Villa and the score was only 2-0," said Scolari.
"Today we had 10 chances and scored from many of them.
"For me, Joe Cole played his best game for me. He played like a winger when he needed to and then as a midfielder when required - defending and attacking. I like this as I like players to change their positions on the pitch. It makes them very difficult to mark.
"I'm also very happy for Frank Lampard. To score 100 league goal is fantastic for a midfielder. To score a goal every one or two games probably makes him the best player in the world. I hope he is recognised as that.
"Nicolas Anelka is scoring more goals as he is playing more games. I gave him the number 9 shirt and he is playing with confidence.
"Ashley Cole has a calf injury and will miss the trip to Rome. We will assess him tomorrow but it would be one or two weeks out."
One person out of the starting line-up against Roma on Tuesday in the Champions |League is Didier Drogba.
Scolari confirmed that Anelka will start.
"Didier is just back from injury. Anelka will start against Roma as he is in good confidence and in good condition.
"That is an easy decision now. It will be a difficult decision in a few week - but that is for then, not now."
Sunderland boss Roy Keane confirmed that he will sleep well tonight.
Despite being asked to sit in the stand by the ref Martin Atkinson at half-time. Keane is not sure if he was officially sent off or not
"You will have to ask the ref," he said.
Keane is not a man to get unduly upset by a drubbing - but the logic for his state of mind is justified.
"I was disappointed will all the goals conceded but in particular with the third one," admitted the Irishman.
"But that is not to say that we would have got anything from the game.
"There is no shame to losing to such a good side.
"All I wanted was a bit of fairness from the game.
"When I saw Drogba warming up, I was thinking that I wish the clock would speed forward.
"I wish we could have played better.
"All my young players earned their right to play - we even have a couple of youngsters looking to get into the first team.
"I was in my bedroom last night looking at the tactics board. But to be honest, no system would have worked,
"I don't think a sitting midfielder would have helped as they have players like Deco who can open up any side.
Chelsea will, I believe win the league - they have top, top players.
"They are expected to be winning leagues and Champions Leagues and I think they will do that in the coming years.
"Manchester United have won the league for the past two seasons and they might have lost a bit of edge. Chelsea have that look of the eye of the tiger, so I expect them to win it. I said Manchester United would win it last season - and I was right then, too."
