Spanish Stars Linked

The major rumour doing the rounds is that Roman Abrmovich has bid £28 million for Atletico Madrid star Fernando Torres. The youngster netted an impressive 13 times in 28 appearances last season and is only 19 years old!

However, the Atleico board deemed the bid to be insufficient and rejected it over the weekend.

And two Deportivo La Coruna stars have been linked to us- Diego Tristan and Roy Makaay. Depor have made it perfectly clear that, due to cash problems, one of their star players must be sold. Makaay has been the subject of intense interest from Bayern Munich, although no fee has been agreed. Surprise, surprise, Chelsea are then linked with him!

Makaay won the Golden Boot in Spain last season (or the 'Pichichi' as they call it) by a country mile and is hot property. Tristan, on the other hand, didn't have his best season last year, although he also won the Pichichi a few years back.

Both players have bundles of ability and either one of them would be a worthy addition to the squad. But you can only trust the Spanish press as far as you can throw them, so it is recommended that you take these rumours with a pinch of salt...
