Stefano Pioli provides update on Rafael Leao's Milan future

AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli is confident that the club can keep hold of Rafael Leao despite interest from across Europe.

Leao has emerged as one of the most exciting attackers in Europe in the last year or so, getting 11 goals and eight assists in 31 league starts last season, and six and four in 12 starts this season.

His impressive performances have caught the eye of Chelsea, who have long been interested in the Portugal forward. His contract is set to expire in 2024.

90min understands that Milan's attempts to extend the player's deal, which includes offering to make him the highest-paid player in Serie A, are yet to yield any results.

If that remains the case, they'll most likely be forced to sell him in the summer to ensure they don't lose him on a free transfer.

Pioli isn't too worried about the player's future for the time being though, believing that he's happy at Milan and could yet extend his stay beyond next season.

"Two things are sure, that he is happy with us, because I see and talk to him, and that Rafa and the club are talking," Pioli told Sky Italia.

"We are waiting for good news. I believe that his path with us is not yet finished, I see that we are well together."
