The England coach last night revealed: “Something can happen.”
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has told current manager Claudio Ranieri he must win a trophy this season. And Eriksson is clearly keeping a close eye on developments at Stamford Bridge.
He said: “I have a contract but of course much relies on what happens in the spring and summer.
“Let’s say England lose every game 3-0 in Portugal, then I suppose I will get the sack before we get back.
“If that happens and if, let’s say, Chelsea has been a flop from now and until May, then something can happen.”
Eriksson added: “I don’t want to be a loser and that is why I must be very careful the next time I choose a club or a country.
“It is correct that I was invited to see Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich for a meal.
“I wanted to get information on how they run clubs in England. I have also talked to chairmen at other clubs.”
Kenyon insisted the club had not spoken to Eriksson about the job but underlined how important it was that Ranieri wins silverware.
He said: “Will the manager be changed if we don’t win something? We review all these positions. It’s an ongoing process.”
