Terry, speaking on Chelsea TV, spoke of his own desire and determination to succeed in the Blue of Chelsea, following Claudio’s motivating promise that he is to succeed Marcel Desailly as captain.
Terry, 22, revealed: "I've agreed everything with Chelsea and I'm just waiting for them to get back to me. The ball is in Chelsea's court but we've spoken about it and I'm ready to sign for a few more years now.
"On New Year's Eve, before we played Arsenal, I went to see the manager and he told that I was his captain for the future.
"That was reassuring to hear and being captain would be a dream come true. It's a privilege to captain Chelsea."
Despite John not being an automatic choice this season due to the sublime, near faultless form of Desailly and William Gallas, John is content to bide his time on the bench as he is of no doubt, that to commit his future to the Blues is the right thing to do.
He said, "Pre-season, I had a bit of an injury on my knee and had an operation. When I came back, those two were playing brilliantly so I had no complaints," he maintained.
"My head has been fine throughout it though. I've been learning off them when they've been playing well and I try to look positively at it."
Such is the importance of Terry to Chelsea’s future, Chairman Ken Bates pointed out to John (following a lunch date at Christmas) that if he were to ever consider leaving the club, he would, quite simply, "break his legs if he ever thought about it!"
That’s the kind of persuasion I like! Simple, direct and effective.
