John Terry will face Manchester United on Sunday after the FA upheld the Blues appeal against his sending off on Saturday.
Ref Mark Halsey brandished a stupid red card for Terry when the centre-back hauled down striker Jo 13 minutes from time.
Realising his mistake Halsey tried to muddy the water by claiming the offence was serious foul play as opposed to a professional foul.
Ricardo Carvalho was well positioned to defend Jo had Terry not upended the Brazilian hitman.
However the FA have seen through Halsey's decision and decided the it was a wrongful dismissal as there was no serious foul play.
Serious foul play is when a player uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is play.
Something which was laughable in Terry's case.
Halsey should not referee a Chelsea match again this season, in my view.
Had the ref taken a few seconds to properly judge the event the correct decision would have been a yellow card for Terry.
In his haste, he got it badly wrong.
Had Terry lost the appeal, he would have faced a three-match ban which would have meant him missing Sunday's clash against United plus matches against Portsmouth inn the Carling Cup and the away Premier league match at Stoke City.
