THIERRY HENRY

After reports suggested that Roman made a formal bid for the Arsenal star, Chelsea chief exec Paul Smith had this to say: "In the summer there was talk of Chelsea moving for Thierry, but Arsenal made it clear he was too central to their plans. I can see why.

"David Dein called me yesterday to apologise and sent his apologies to Roman (Abramovich). The journalist put two and two together and got five. Roman was at the game as a spectator and there's nothing in it whatsoever."

And David Dein backed this up "Mr Abramovich didn't table a bid and we didn't refuse it. There was a face-to-face meeting and a formal enquiry but we told Chelsea that Thierry Henry was not for sale at any price.

"Fifty million or £150 million - that's not the point. It makes no difference what the figure is. He's not for sale. But I would stress that Chelsea's conduct was entirely proper."

So that's that then!

Pavel Nedved

The fact of the matter is that Juve would surely not consider selling their prized asset to a Champions League rival! And it's unlikely that Nedved would consider the move, as his agent confirmed "I want to finish playing after the 2006 World Cup and that's when my contract at Juve runs out. I've promised my wife that I will go back to the Czech Republic and not play football after that.

"I know all about Chelsea's interest - but I'm happy playing in Italy with Juventus."

Franceso Totti

Another great player, but another unlikely signing. Totti is idolised by Roma fans- indeed, he is a Roman himself. He is a god to the Roma fans.

It would take an awful lot of money to prise him away, but what a coup it would be!
