Andre Villas-Boas has resigned as manager of Porto leaving the path clear for him to rock up at SW6 later this week.
The Portugal rookie manager is believed to be set to sign a £4.5m a year four-year-deal to replace sacked Carlo Ancelotti.
Porto said: "FC Porto was today notified of the intention of Andre Villas-Boas to resign from his contract with the club by triggering the release clause immediately," read a Porto statement. "The contract will be terminated once the required amount is paid."
That figure is in the region of £14m - thanks to the generosity of Roman Abramovich. Portugal news reports are suggesting that Villas-Boas will pay the money himself, but you can bet your bottom dollar that he will get that money back sooner rather than later.
But should Villas-Boas land the Champions League next season, it will be considered as a price well worth paying.
The 33-year-old will bring his own coaching team - which is bad news for unqualified first-team coach Michael Emenalo- who was promoted by Chelsea at the behest, it's said ,of Abramovich.
Paul Clement, the Blues' other first team coach is awaiting Villas-Boas's decision on the final make-up of the management team before making his own decision.
