Chelsea manager Andres Villas-Boas refused to blame Fernando Torres for his sending neither off nor expects the Spain forward has anything to apologise for.
Torres was handed a straight red card for his reckless challenge on Mark Gower on 39 minutes.
Torres had scored the first goal, his second of the season, to set Chelsea off to a convincing 4-1 win over Swansea City at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
Villas-Boas said: “I have nothing to say about the sending off – a good decision by the ref.”
But he, of course did elaborate: “For Torres, it’s the nature of the game but that’s football and we had to adjust to the situation.
“Nando has nothing to apologise for – it was the ref’s decision. With 10 men we had two banks of four in the middle with Nico up front, we did not panic and we did well.
“All our strikers compete for a place – with Torres now off, that will give other player a chance to play.
“Torres will be disappointed as was Alex when he was sent-off on Wednesday night against Fulham.
“Physically we should be okay for Valencia- it’s an early time of the season.”
Asked about the return of Didier Drogba, The Portuguese boss said: “For me, the most important thing about Didier’s game was his aerial first chance on Williams - it showed his commitment.
