It would appear that some of Chelsea's deadwood and a couple of high-profile players will be shipped out in the summer.
Roman Abramovich has, according to sources, ordered chief executive Peter Kenyon to clear the decks and bring in players who will bring back the Premier League title to SW6 and land the holy grail that is the Champions League.
It's feared that this current side is aging too fast to sustain another gruelling season and this season could be the last for several key men.
Chelsea are still in the hunt for the Champions League and FA Cup double and have an outside chance of the league title. But it's reckoned this crop of players is close to it's sell-by date and as a result a restructuring of the squad is required.
Recent reports suggest that Deco could end his first year in the Premier League by moving to Spain with Athletico Madrid a likely suitor.
Other players in the frame are Florent Malouda - constantly linked to Juventus and even Didier Drogba - a move to Inter Milan not out of the question, although AC Milan looks a better option.
With a new left-back sought following the move of Wayne Bridge, it appears to spell the end of Paulo Ferreira.
Salomon Kalou has lost his place in Guus Hiddink's first eleven and has spoken about a move to Arsenal. That might be a good move for him and Chelsea - maybe not for Arsenal.
Others who may not be happy about their lot at present could be centre-backs Alex and Branislav Ivanovic - reduced to bit players now Ricardo Carvalho is fit and back in the side.
Carlos Mineiro, remember him and Richardo Quaresma will be able to book out of their hotels and head back to wherever and Italy respectively.
Who comes in, will in part, depend of who Chelsea appoint as manager or head coach as they like to call it now.
Like Scolari before him, the man will work with whatever squad he is presented with.
But if they get him in before the summer is over, he might get to choose a player he would like to see in the team.
That man for Scolari was, of course Robinho - that failed and so did he.
Hiddink has said many times he is going back to Russia at the end of May.
Chelsea need a manager who is true to his word and not prone to be influenced by outside forces.
Had Hiddink not made such proclamations about his future, then he might well have proved to be a worthy successor to Jose Mourinho.
It'll be tough to find someone of either of their quality.
But that's why Kenyon is paid the big bucks.
