Poor Old Ray Wilkins, dumped on the scrapheap again.
Still, I'm sure one of the finest midfielders ever to put on the Blue of Chelsea will be well rewarded for his efforts.
Wilkins left Chelsea today, mid-season and with no replacement in sight.
That means, either Paul Clement, the more than able former youth team coach who has progressed onto the top table of coaching at SW6 will step up and assume more responsibility, or, more likey, Carlo Ancelotti will bring in an old mate from AC Milan.
Of course it could be that Roman Abramovich's desire to cut costs has led chief exeutive Ron Gourly to interpret that Wilkins was simply surplus to requirement and he got rid of a Chelsea legend.
Ray was lured back from his media work to assist Luiz Felipe Scolari.
The Brazilian had no little first-hand understanding of English football, so the then chief executive Peter Kenyon brough Ray on board to smooth the waters.
Ray survived Scolari's sacking and also his short-term replacement Guss Hiddink.
But it looks as if middle-management-type Ancelotti is here to stay for a while, so when Ray's contract was up, Chelsea decided to wield the axe and save a few bob.
Chelsea would neither deny or confirm that Ancelotti will get a replacement. But I suspect they will.
