World Cup Update

Too late for Gallas?
Desailly said, "William is unlucky as he has missed the train. Even if Mikael Silvestre is not better than him, he is inside the group of France already. He can do badly at Manchester United but he's in the atmosphere, knows everyone and we know that he is a good player whether he has a good or a bad time.

"The manager is not going to give anyone else a chance now. The group is already there."

This news, whilst not the best for Gallas, will please Chelsea fans as it means that Gallas will have the whole summer to rest.

In other World Cup news, Jesper Gronkjaer has been named in the Denmark squad to face the Republic of Ireland next week. Coach Morten Nielsen feels that Gronkjaer has both the form and the fitness to play a crucial part in Denmark's World Cup plans.

After this news, Chelsea Mad decided to take a look at which players in the first team squad are on their way to Japan/South Korea or can book their summer holidays:

Goalkeepers

Mark Bosnich (Australia)- Did not qualify

Carlo Cudicini (Italy)- Highly unlikely to go to the World Cup due to the wealth of goalkeeping talent in Serie A

Ed de Goey (Holland)- Did not qualify

Defenders

Celestine Babayaro (Nigeria)- Should make starting XI barring injury

Winston Bogarde (Holland)- Did not qualify

Marcel Desailly (France)- Will captain the French side

Albert Ferrer (Spain)- Staying at home

Willam Gallas (France)- Not likely after Desailly's outburst

Mario Melchiot (Holland)- Did not qualify

Graeme Le Saux (England)- Disciplinary problems block the way

John Terry (England)- Banned from playing for England until his court case in April

Midfielders

Sam Dalla Bona (Italy)- Unlikely due to his age and a proven midfield already in place

Jesper Gronkjaer (Denmark)- Should make it if he stays injury free

Slavisa Jokanovic (Yugoslavia)- Did not qualify

Frank Lampard (England)- Only Sven really knows if he will make the final squad. Recent form suggests he has a good chance

Jody Morris (England)- Staying at home

Manu Petit (France)- Crucial part of the French midfield

Mario Stanic (Croatia)- Should make starting XI

Boudewijn Zenden (Holland)- Did not qualify

Strikers

Mikael Forsell (Finland)- Did not qualify

Eidur Gudjohnsen (Iceland)- Did not qualify

Jimmy Floyd Hassebaink (Holland)- Did not qualify

Franco Zola (Italy)- Retired from international football

Fortunately for the Blues the majority of our squad will have the summer off due to a combination of their nations failing to qualify for the tournament and also due to age- either too young or too old!
