Blues assistant manager Gwyn Williams said: "It's a deep, gouged cut to the muscles in his thigh. He was taken to hospital after the match.
"He had stitches and will stay in hospital for another three or four days to check there is no infection.
"They're keeping him in as a precaution to check everything is 100 per cent okay. It's a long-term injury that will keep him out for weeks rather than days."
Mario Stanic is suspended, and Graeme Le Saux will have a late fitness check after feeling ill following the defeat at Spurs.
Celestine Babayaro is on international duty with Nigeria in the African Nations Cup.
