He will have to beat some truly magnificent players if he is to win the award though... The list in full is:
James Beattie (Southampton)
Alan Shearer (Newcastle)
Paul Scholes (Man Utd)
Ruud van Nistelrooy (Man Utd)
Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
Gianfranco Zola (Chelsea)
Unfortunately, no Chelsea players have been nominated for the PFA young Player Of The Year award. It is a very impressive list this year:
Wayne Rooney (Everton)
Jermaine Jenas (Newcastle)
Craig Bellamy (Newcastle)
Jermain Defoe (West Ham)
Scott Parker (Charlton)
John O'Shea (Man Utd)
My tip for the PFA Player Of The Year is.... Gianfranco Zola- you didn't expect me to say anyone else, did you?).
And for the Young Player Of The Year award, Jermain Defoe or John O'Shea would be my prediction. Defoe for his goalscoring all year round (not just every now and then, unlike a certain Mr Rooney) and O'Shea for coming into a Man United defence that has gone from being shocking last year, to being the best this year- he has had more impact on that than Rio Ferdinand.
Only time will tell if my predictions are to be correct...
