Why are the papers saying that Sauxy will leave? After mssing so much of Chelsea's success in the late nineties through injury, why would he want to leave the club now, with the future looking so bright.
Well, I'm afraid that what he wants doesn't come into it. Chelsea seem intent to sign Wayne Bridge from Southampton, despite seeing bids of £5m and £6m rejected. Now it looks as if Graeme Le Saux will be offered as part of the deal- a sweetener if you will.
I know he's getting on a bit, and he does still struggle with injury from time to time, but I still rate him as one of the best left sided players in England- certainly the best English one! So why do we want to get rid of him?
If Damien Duff signs, and it remains a big if, can you imagine how strong our left side will be. Sauxy likes to attack and with him in tandem with possibly the best left winger in the Premiership is a frightening prospect for our opposition.
Don't get me wrong, Wayne Bridge is a great player- and surely a future England regular- but we just don't need him right now. Baba is still a decent player, despite his poor form last season, and I still rate him very highly.
I just think that our money could be spent in better places. Why waste £7million on a position that we are already very strong in, when we are in desperate need of a midfielder? Put that £7 million towards buying Seba Veron, or Emerson from Roma.
But most of all, don't let Sauxy go- he's Chelsea through and through...
