Carlo Cudicini- Looked shaky at times to begin with, especially his handling. But as the game went on he grew in confidence and his major saves were caused by his own teammates. JT's short back header allowed Phillips a one on one, which Carlo held his ground on to make a simple save. And not long had passed before Mario Melchiot virtually laid the ball on for Ormerod. From point blank range, Carlo magnificently turned the ball away and we went up the other end and scored! Chants of "Carlo! Carlo!" rang around the ground, and rightly so. 8
Mario Melchiot- Excellent going forward, linking up superbly at times with Gronkjaer. Still has his casual moments in defence, but Southampton never looked like scoring and his attacking prowess was vital in our second half performance. 8
John Terry- Solid as a rock! One shaky moment, other than that he never looked worried. 8
Robert Huth- Looked assured alongside Terry and he also managed to throw in a couple of bone crunching tackles! Once this guy learns to read the play better, he will be a real star. 8
Wayne Bridge- Playing against his former side, Bridgey never really got into the game. Defended well enough, but wasn't his usual attacking self. Still, did the job he is paid to do! 7
Jesper Gronkjaer- One of his better performances this season. Southampton's defence was constantly on the back foot due to his pace, and his link up play with Mario allowed so much space for others. Even managed to send in a couple of great crosses, including the corner from which we scored our opener! Now that is a collector's item! 8
Geremi- Much better from the Cameroonian star, playing in a central midfield role. Still a tad slack with his passing, but he allowed Lamps to push forward which is always a good thing! 7
Frank Lampard- Immense! Ran the show today and Monaco had better watch out if he shows this form on Wednesday night. Showed his poachers instinct with a couple of great finishes! 9
Joe Cole- After a slow start, Joe got into the game more and more. He was a real threat in the second half and he is learning to carry the ball for much longer and, more importantly, when to release the ball. With Duffer out, Joe kept the crowd entertained with his tricks! 8
Eidur Gudjohnsen- Easily our best striker over the last couple of months. Held the ball up brilliantly, always linked well with Jimmy and generally gave Saints no rest at the back. Played a big part in all the goals if my memory serves me well, and just looked a real menace! 9
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink- Like Joey Cole, took his time to get into the game. But once he did, it was old school Jimmy! He and Eidur have such an amazing understanding and Jimmy was part of the reason why Eidur's performance was so good! Altough, no doubt, Jimmy will be moaning tonight after failing to score! 8
Subs
Glen Johnson- Replaced Gronks with just over 10 minutes left on the clock, and got a nice workout. Scored a great goal! 7
Seba Veron- Replace Joe Cole just after Jonno came on, to a chorus of boo's. Showed a couple of nice touches but did nothing of real note. But this showing was all about getting a bit more match practice. 7
Claude Makelele- Replaced Lamps with 5 minutes left, don't think he touched the ball though! N/A
