Chelsea failed to put FC Copenhagen to the sword in a frustrating night at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League.
The Blues are into the last eight draw on Friday, but this 0-0 draw had echoes of the last throes of Jose Mourinho's reign when Chelsea drew with Rosenberg.
But Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti need not fear for his job just yet but anymore insipid performances like this in the Champions League and the Italian may well be shown the door before the season ends
Leaving Fernando Torres on the bench indicated a certain amount of contempt for the visitors who were defeated 0-2 by the Blues a couple of weeks ago in the first leg.
But Copenhagen have played a couple more games since then and showed at the Bridge they are a capable side.
Chelsea were sloppy from the off when Frank Lampard, picking up a fine pass from Ashley Cole decided to slam a left footer into the side-netting on three minutes.
Seven minutes later and it was Drogba’s turn to strike but his weak effort was held by Johan Wiland.
As if the attacks went in seven minute cycles, on 17 minutes it was Russian Yury Zhirkov’s turn to miss.
The efforts on the Copenhagen goal kept on coming but with no final penetration.
Nicola Anelka was next in line – at least his deft flick after brilliant set-up play by Jose Bosingwa and Cole was expertly saved by the visiting goalkeeper.
Copenhagen however had the best chance of the first half, when on 25 minutes a superb free-kick by Dame N’Doye smashed off Cech’s right post.
The second half repeated much of the first with Chelsea in the ascendency.
Mikel equalised the woodwork count, when on 51 minutes, his header from 10 yards out bounced off the crossbar to safety.
Carlo Ancelotti clearly had enough and decided to bring on Fernando Torres for the misfiring Anelka on 68 minutes.
In truth either he or Drogba could have come off.
Florent Malouda came into the fray on 74 minutes for the disappointing Zhirkov.
But there was no change in play, and with seven minutes remaining Ancelotti brought on Michael Essien for Mikel.
So desperate were Chelsea for Torres top score that Lampard passed up a fine goal-scoring chance himself to give the ball to Torres but was dispossessed at the death.
A long-range effort by Essien was the last piece of action in a bitterly disappointing encounter.
