Lucas Piazon spared Chelsea's blushes by nabbing an equaliser nine minutes from time to earn the Blues a creditable draw against Paris St-Germain in the Yankee Stadium, New York.
The 18-year-old youth team product was a second half substitute and he struck the Londoners only goal after the French side took a first half lead through Nene.
This was an historic occasion in so much as it was the first football match ever to be played in the iconic baseball stadium.
It was also the first time PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti had played against the side who unceremoniously sacked him at the back end of the 2010/11 season.
The opening exchanges saw PSG settle the quickest with the Chelsea back four under pressure and Petr Cech was forced to make a smart save from Enrique Lavezzi after three minutes.
Striker Lavezzi was then given a yellow card for diving in nine minutes for the French side after Cech rushed out to the edge of his penalty area to close down the striker after another sharp counter-attack.
Chelsea first attack of worth came from the lively Eden Hazard on 15 minutes when he let fly from a 25 yards out. Sadly for him, his right- footed strike was well wide of Douchez's goal.
PSG deservedly took the lead on 30 minutes when Javier Pastore zipped through the Chelsea rearguard, on the left. His right foot shot ricocheted off Cech's right post and fell invitingly to Brazil winger Nene who tucked home confidently from 10 yards out.
Sakho went into the ref's notebook for upending Hazard five minutes before the break. From the resultant free-kick, Frank Lampard let fly with a 25-yarder which, while on target, failed to cause Douchez any trouble.
Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires, Michael Essien and Marko Marin started the second half in place of Luiz, Lampard, Kakuta and De Bruyne.
Ivanovic almost levelled the scores on 57 minutes when a Hazard corner went through a melee of players but the Serbian substitute scuffed his shot wide from eight yards out.
Mikel found himself in the ref's book for a clumsy challenge two minutes later. Verratti entered the book for a late challenge on Ramires on 61 minutes.
Seven changes for the Blues were made on 62 minutes
Ross Turnbull, Josh McEachran, Florent Malouda, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Nathaniel Chalobah and Lucas Piazon then entered the fray.
These changes may have been good for the neutral spectators but it was also good for Chelsea's team cohesion.
With nine minutes remaining the 18-year-old Brazil forward Piazon go onto the end of a Ramires right wing cross to stretch out his left leg and direct the ball into the back of the PSG net.
Malouda forced a fine save from substitute goalkeeper Areola four minutes later as the Londoners finished the game the stronger.
But there were not goal threats left in the match and it was left honours' even.
