Chelsea 2 Man Utd 2

Chelsea couldn't have hoped for a better start to the game and found themselves ahead after just 3 minutes.

Boudewijn Zenden swung in a dangerous free kick and William Gallas's studs managed to divert the ball past Roy Carroll for the games opening goal.

The Blues dominated the early goings and seemed to be inspired by the early goal.

But that inspiration soon turned to disbelief as a raking cross field ball by Mikael Silvestre was brilliantly controlled by Beckham before he beat Babayaro and curled the ball home for an undeserved equaliser. Replays showed that the shot was deflected past Cudicini by Desailly.

But rather than drop their heads, the Blues battled back and JFH had a couple of shots well saved.

The Blues would make the breakthrough once again on the stroke of half time, thanks to a Roy Carroll error. The young keeper tried to throw the ball out to Keane to start a counter attack but Frank Lampard, having an exceptional first half, cut it out and got the ball to Zenden. The Dutch winger played a neat give and go with Lampard, resulting in the England man being clattered but the ref played a great advantage to allow Zenden to smash the ball in.

That goal, however, was probably the worst thing for Chelsea. The former champions were constantly attacking in the second period and the Blues struggles to string more than two passes together at a time.

United finally scored the goal that their dominance deserved as a good run by Silvestre left the Chelsea defence flatfooted, and the Frenchman pulled the ball back to the on rushing Giggs who tucked the ball home.

United continued to dominate and had a few chances, including a good shout for a penalty turned down when Cudicini brought down Scholes.

The game finished even and that was probably a fair result as each side dominated a half.

Disappointingly for Chelsea, they couldn't keep up their first half performance and the game will be looked upon as a missed opportunity for the Blues. But a draw against Man United is always a great result... yet we at Chelsea Mad are thinking back on a lot of what if's and wondering if the boys in blue should have come away with all three points...
