Chelsea faced little resistance as the dispatched Wolves 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Goals from John Terry, Daniel Sturridge and Juan Mata in the first half saw off the visitors. Wolves were poor, they came to defend and sadly were caught out after just six minutes.
That goal set the tempo for the match and the home side took full advantage.
Raul Meireles had the first effort of the game on two minutes, but his right-foot drive from just outside the Wolves area was wide of Hennessy's goal.
Chelsea took control of the game early in, denying Wolves time and space to launch any counter-attacks.
Ramires disposed Nenad Milijas in the centre circle on five minutes. But his long run and shot was expertly saved by Hennessey.
But from the resultant corner by Juan Mata, skipper John Terry rose above his teammate David Luiz to powerfully head the ball into the net a minute later.
Wolves's first effort of note came on 22 minutes when Stephen Ward, from 18 yards out met Matthew Jarvis's byline cross.
But the header sailed high over Petr Cech's goal. The Blues doubled the lead on 29 minutes when a fine left wing passing move involving Ashley Cole, Meireles and Mata saw the Spain midfielder hit the perfect byline cross into the gleeful path of Daniel Sturridge who tucked the ball home from close range.
The game was effectively over as a contest on 44 minutes when rampant Blues hit their third. Didier Drogba, ever willing on the left, fed the ball back to Cole.
The left-back sent the ball into the area, where Mata hit a first-time half volley with his left boot to smash the ball high into the food of the Wolves goal, giving Hennessey no chance.
No changes were made at half-time as the game settled down into a repeat of the first. Two chances close together could have seen the Blues extend their lead. Ramires saw a wonderful half volley arch towards goal only to see Hennessey produce a fine diving save to deny the Brazil midfielder.
Three minutes later, on 53 minutes, and the visitors raced up field and we a bit unlucky to see an Ashley Ward right foot daisy-cutter inch wide of Cech's right post.
Frank Lampard, dropped to the bench for this game, entered the fray with 20 minutes remaining, replacing Meireles.
Sturridge left fly with a fine shot on 72 minutes but Hennessey was equal to task. And the stopper was brought into play again a minutes later, saving twice from Sturridge again and then Mata. Fernando Torres came off the bench to a rousing cheer from the Chelsea faithful on 74 minutes, replacing Drogba and immediately got into the action, forcing a corner with his first touch.
Also on came Jose Bosingwa for Ivanovic. But the game petered out.
But not before Terry picked up a yellow card for time wasting. That means he now has five yellows and should miss the Carling Cup game against Liverpool on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge.
