Tottenham's bad run against Chelsea continued as they had to settle for a point at WhiteHart Lane despite creating the better chances.

Spurs have never beaten Chelsea in the Premiership but that record would have come toan end had it not been for the brilliance of Carlo Cudicini in the Blues goal.

The Italian keeper made three stunning saves to keep out Jamie Redknapp, Gus Poyetand Teddy Sheringham and his saves almost earned Chelsea all three points as MarioMelchiot struck the woodwork midway through the second half.

Spurs did not look like a side that had not beaten Chelsea in a league match for 12 yearsas they enjoyed the better of the first half.

Spurs' high tempo did not allow the visitors time to settle on the ball and they gave itaway far too often.

However, it was Chelsea who had the first sight of goal as Melchiot put Gianfranco Zola inbehind the Spurs defence only for the little Italian to drag his shot wide.

Then it was Robbie Keane's turn to waste a golden chance in the 16th minute as he beatWilliam Gallas to Redknapp's deep cross only to put his header wide.

In the 26th minute a piece of Redknapp magic almost gave Spurs the lead.

Keane rolled a free kick back to the former Liverpool man who flicked the ball in the airand sent a volley fizzing towards goal only for Cudicini to palm the ball over.

With Spurs having most of the play there was always the danger Chelsea could hit themon the break and the visitors missed two good chances on the counter attack.

Frank Lampard took too long to shoot allowing Kasey Keller to trap the ball and thenEnrique De Lucas screwed a shot wide when clean through.

If Tottenham had played at a fast pace in the first half they stepped up another gearafter the break.

After just two minutes Simon Davies and Stephen Carr carved open the Chelsea defenceonly for Keane to head Carr's cross over the bar.

Poyet then had the perfect chance to score against his former club only for Cudicini toblock with his legs and then tip over another shot from Sheringham as Spurs had to becontent with just a point
