Chelsea dominated the early proceedings, with Jesper Gronkjaer heading over and Mikael Forssell seeing a deflected shot skim the crossbar.
But a goal wasn't far away, and it was Forssell who scored it. The Finn took a centre from Bridge and fired confidently into the far corner. It could have been 2-0 just minutes later when Frank Lampard's thunderous shot cannoned back off the post.
But, once again, a goal wasn't too far away. With only 16 minutes on the clock, the lead was doubled. Robinson brought down Jesper Gronkjaer in the box, Jimmy slotted home the resultant spot kick.
With 25 minutes on the clock, the Blues had added a third. This time, Geremi saw a shot come back off the post but Mikael Forssell was on hand to finish things off. Unfortunately for him, Neil Ardley slid in before Forssell had a chance to score it, and it went down as an own goal.
Forssell and Hasselbaink were linking up well and both saw headers saved by Watford keeper Alec Chaimberlain. The Hornets then went up the other end and brought the scoreline to 3-1. Neil Ardley made arrears for his own goal when he whipped in a fabulous cross for Heidur Helguson to head home.
All that and it wasn't even half time. The goals did dry up either side of half time and there were 60 minutes on the clock when Damien Duff scored his first goal for Chelsea. Eidur Gudjohnsen's shot was palmed away by Chamberlain, but only as far as Damien Duff, who finished with ease.
Gudjohnsen had a great chance to add a fifth but his point blank effort was splendidly turned away by Chamberlain.
So it was another victory for Chelsea, on the night that we scored another victory in the transfer market. All eyes will be on Joe Cole and Juan Seba Veron tomorrow...
