Paulo Ferreira - Looked more comfortable today. Played some good crosses in and pushed further forward to good effect. Seems to be settling into English football more. Won the free kick that resulted in our goal. 7
John Terry - Nothing different to usual. Reliable. Always there. Lucky not to concede a penalty though, after appearing to block a shot with his raised arm. Also made Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink see stars after kicking him in the head! Jimmy had to receive more than 10 minutes of medical treatment and got 7 stiches in his head! 8
Ricardo Carvalho - Few miss placed passes, but all-in-all was sound. Getting a better understanding with Tex now. A safe bet to start against Porto next week. 7
William Gallas - Played well considering he is not a left back. Got forward well, supported Duff whenever possible. Wasn't really troubled defending wise. 7
Claude Makelele - Superb. Strong in the tackle and sprayed ball around his neat close passing was great to see. Viduka and Jimmy didnt get a sniff and Claude had a lot to do with that. 8
Frank Lampard - Not one of his better games, rather in-effective. Got forward to help when possible but achieved nothing. Good passing at times. Great deliveries from set pieces, and the one for Drogba's goal was brilliantly worked. 7
Alexei Smertin - Up and down! Lucky not to get sent off for what was no more than petyness. Right to be subbed. However, before that his shere determination and willingness to play anywhere is admirable. He is proving to be more than just a utility substitute. 8
Damien Duff - Looked very good but he tired late on. Ran well at defenders and gave us something we haven't had all season. His crossing was good and on another day Drogba could've got on the end of at least two of those crosses.
Eidur Gudjohnsen - One very tame shot early on was about his sole contribution. Not a good game at all. Didn't do his chances for starting on Wednesday night any good. 5
Didier Drogba - Unlucky not to bag a brace after his first half effort crashed back off the underside of the crossbar. Finished his goal very well and seems to be enjoying his football now. His current strike rate of 4 goals in 8 matches is very good and can only get better as he gets a regular strike partner and develops an understanding. 8
